EIFFEL Pilot 5 Drought monitoring & forecasting workshop

EIFFEL Pilot 5: Disaster Resilience > Drought, forest fire & pest risk assessment, organized on 31st of May an insightful workshop entitled "Drought monitoring and forecasting workshop", in collaboration with a national drought-related project, with the main objective to discuss drought forecasting and useful indices that can be leveraged from the perspective of different user groups (water resources, agriculture and water management).

During the 3hour interactive workshop, there were 30 minutes of introductory presentations and 75 minutes of work in break-out groups using guiding questions on Google Jamboard.

22 people participated mainly from research institutes as well as regional and national administration and ministry (i.e. Finnish Environment institute, Natural Resources Institute Finland, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland, Finnish Meteorological Institute, Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (South Ostrobothnia and Pirkanmaa regions), Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency).

The discussion helped in selecting suitable drought indices and forecasts, which will be piloted regionally, and later published at vesi.fi (waterinfo.fi) national portal. The work feeds to a larger goal of national drought risk management.
